Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome.The Panzerschreck was a German development of the American bazooka, first encountered in North Africa, firing a large calibre shaped-charge rocket projectile. The back-blast from the weapon was so intense that early teams wore protective capes and masks - later a blast shield was fitted to the weapon giving it a distinctive appearance. The Panzerschreck and disposable anti-tank Panzerfaust had replaced the Panzerba¼chse 39 anti-tank rifle by 1944.During the battle of Stalingrad, Russian snipers took such a heavy toll upon the beleaguered Wehrmacht that the Germans began to train and equip their own marksmen to undertake a specialist role as snipers. A variety of rifles were used for sniping, including the standard KAR-98K and the semi-automatic Gewehr 43, all fitted with the high quality ZF39 telescopic sight, and equipped with precision-manufactured ammunition.Flamethrowers - Flammenwerfer - were used through the war and were often employed against buildings or fortifications. During the latter part of the war, the Germans produced a lighter, smaller design that carried enough fuel for a single burst - effectively a one-shot flamethrower -the Eintossflammenwerfe. Originally developed as an anti-aircraft weapon, the infamous 'eighty-eight' or '88', as it became known by Allied troops, had a high muzzle velocity, allowing it to reach the higher ranges bombers were capable of. This feature also made it an exceptionally deadly anti-tank weapon, as many Allied tank crews learned to their peril. As such, the 88 was also deployed as a conventional artillery piece. As one infantryman noted, the 88 was "anti-everything"...The 88 saw service on all fronts in which the Germans fought during WWII. Capable of penetrating armour plate up to 108mm thick at ranges of up to 1,100 yards, the 88's fearsome reputation grew immensely during its service in the Western Desert where it was one of the very few weapons capable of dealing with the British Matilda II infantry tanks. Afrika Korps HQGerman officers were capable and often experienced leaders. Junior officers were trained to undertake the role of their immediate superiors, enabling them to use their initiative to take control of situations when necessary. The Afrika Korps (DAK) proved this through consistent victories as well as elusiveness in retreat.Afrika Korps Medium Machine GunThe Germans were equipped with two excellent machine guns in the MG34 and rapid-firing MG42 - known to Allied troops as 'Hitler's Buzz Saw' because of its distinctive noise, or 'Spandau'. Unlike other armies, the Germans used the same machine gun both as a squad weapon from its bipod and as a tripod-mounted support weapon. The tripod mounted provided a much more stable firing platform and made it easier to keep up a sustained fire using a belt feed.Afrika Korps Medium MortarThe standard German medium mortar of the war was the 80mm Granatwerfer 34. It was a very effective and accurate weapon that could provide longer range, on-call fire support. It had a maximum range of 2,400 metres and could maintain a rate of fire of 15-20 rounds per minute. Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome.British forces were armed with 2-inch mortar for close support purposes. Two men were needed to operate it. An NCO was responsible for carrying and firing the weapon while the other carried ammunition. Weighing less than 11Ibs and offering an effective range of 500 yards, these mortars were quick to manoeuvre and deploy as needed.Snipers were armed with a SMLE No.4 Rifle equipped with a No.32 Mk.1 telescopic sight. The team carried fifty rounds of ammunition, five tracer round and fiver-armour-piercing rounds. Two No.36 Mills bombs or two No.77 smoke grenades were also carried, along with binoculars and a camouflage net.The portable flamethrower available to British forces was the Ack Pack. At a weight of 64Ibs, the Ack Packs could be carried and operated by one man. Fully loaded, the Ack Pack was capable of ten bursts each of a two second duration. Warlord Games Bolt Action: Italian Alpini Mountain Troops

Known as Le Penne Nere (the black feathers), after the distinctive raven feather in their headgear, the Alpini are the Italian Army's elite specialists in mountain warfare. Created by Royal decree no. 1056 in 1872, they are the oldest mountain specialists in the world.In 1935, the Italian fascist government under Mussolini reorganised the Alpini into six divisions and sent three of them to fight on the Eastern Front alongside the Germans against the Soviet Union. However, the Germans deployed these elite troops (trained and equipped for mountain combat against infantry) along the flat plains of the Don River facing tanks. Despite this, the tenacious Alpini were able to escape encirclement and survive.During the war, Italian Alpini divisions saw combat in Albania, France, Greece and Yugoslavia, as well as in the Soviet Union and even as far afield as East Africa. Warlord Games Bolt Action: Italian Army & Blackshirts

Mussolini famously boasted that the Italian army had eight million bayonets standing at the ready. In actuality, the standing Italian army was far smaller than that, with huge numbers of troops conscripted into a war they neither believed in nor understood. The fighting ability of units of the Italian army varied greatly, with much of the rank and file lacking proper equipment, transport and even motivation. Still, there were several key battles in North Africa and the Eastern Front where they performed well.Initially, the standard rifle was the Carcano Model 1891 as used in World War I. A shortened version was introduced in 1941 (the M91/41); this along with the M38 Carbine, was intended to replace the M1891 - the shorter barrels being far more practical for the infantry to carry and manoeuvre. These latter two weapons are represented in our new plastics. Also represented is the M91/38 cavalry carbine - typically issued with a fixed rear sight (set to 200 metres) and a folding bayonet. The excellent 9mm Beretta M38 was the standard sub-machine gun. The Italian light machine gun - the Breda Model 1930 - suffered from a slow rate of fire, the same small calibre ammunition as the squad's rifles, and a mechanism prone to jamming and breakage.Camicie Nere (Blackshirts) MilitiaThe MVSN or Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (Voluntary Militia for National Security) was made by the Fascist Party into a paramilitary organization similar in concept to the German SS. The rank and organizational terminology used by the MVSN was very close to that of ancient Rome, with legions, centuries, cohorts, maniples and so on. Mostly concerned with territorial security and counter-partisan activities, in wartime the Camicie Nere were organized into 'assault legions' that were fielded alongside regular army infantry divisions to reinforce them and as a way to 'politicize' the Regio Esercito.The quality of these militia units varied immensely, ranging from barely trained village bullies to veterans of the Spanish Civil War and highly motivated 'Giovani Fascisti' (young fascists).The SprueThe Italian uniform changed several times during the course of the war and we chose the pattern that could best represent a wide array of troops, at different times during the war, and in different theatres of operation. At 28mm scale, these are ideal to represent M37 or M40 tunics. Warlord Games Bolt Action: United States Army: M3A1 Half Track

One of the most iconic pieces of hardware in US Military history, over 40,000 M3 half-tracks were produced during World War II with many thousands of similar models also being supplied to their allies.The M3A1 was ideally suited to rushing troops to the front and through gaps in the enemy lines. With a top speed of 45 mph, and armoured enough to keep out most small arms fire, they performed admirably in this role.They had a crew of three men and could carry ten fully equipped troops. There were many variations on the chassis including tank destroyers, mortar carriers and ambulances, but most frequent by far were the M3A1 with its armament of a heavy .50 cal heavy machine gun and two or more .30 cal machine guns.

The Sherman Tank was the main stay of the American army. The Break out from the Normandy beaches and the bocage could never been achieved without the armoured support. Although they had their weaknesses their impressive adaptability, firepower and large production numbers enabled the Allies to over power the Germans.

Warlord Games Bolt Action: M18 Hellcat (Plastic)

The Hellcat's prodigious speed was attained by keeping it's armour to no more than 1" thick. Hellcat crews quickly took advantage of the vehicle's speed to minimise the enemy's ability to pierce its thin armour. Hellcats used their speed to outflank and penetrate the side and back of the heavily armoured German Tiger and Panther tanks.The M18 Hellcat saw service in the Western Front in the main. However it also saw action in the Pacific and in Italy. The US military also supplied the M18 to Chinese Nationalist forces opposing the Japanese in the Pacific theatre. As this was something of an overkill situation against weakly armoured Japanese tanks, the Hellcat was more often used in a fire support role.Post war, the Hellcat would see service with several nations and it is still in use with the Venezualan Army!

The Sd.Kfz 250/1 was a reconnaissance and transport half-track mainly used by scout and HQ units. The vehicle was a shortened version of the ubiquitous Sd.Kfz 251 Hanomag series and much like its longer cousin there were many variants fulfilling different roles, such as cable carriers, ammunition carriers and radio carriers, amongst others. It carried six men including the driver and the co-driver and was armed with two pintle-mounted MG34 machine guns, one shielded forward facing and the other covering the rear and air.This model is based on the original 'Alt' (old) version which served through World War II with the forces of Germany in all theatres as well as with their Romanian allies.There are enough parts to build one of the following versions:Sd.Kfz 250/1 - the standard version of this armoured half-track.Sd.Kfz 250/3 - command variant equipped with a radio aerial frame, famously used by Rommel as his personal command vehicle, Greif (Griffon).Sd.kfz 250/10 - platoon commander's half-track with the forward machine gun replaced by a 3.7cm PaK 35/36 anti-tank gun.It also includes crew figures with separate heads wearing regular or winter uniforms as well as a figure depicting Feldmarschall Erwin Rommel!

The Sd.Kfz 250/1 was a reconnaissance and transport half-track mainly used by scout and HQ units. The vehicle was a shortened version of the ubiquitous Sd.Kfz 251 Hanomag series and much like its longer cousin there were many variants fulfilling different roles, such as cable carriers, ammunition carriers, and radio carriers, amongst others. Originally developed as an anti-aircraft weapon, the infamous 'eighty-eight' or '88', as it became known by Allied troops, had a high muzzle velocity, allowing it to reach the higher ranges bombers were capable of. This feature also made it an exceptionally deadly anti-tank weapon, as many Allied tank crews learned to their peril. As such, the 88 was also deployed as a conventional artillery piece. As one infantryman noted, the 88 was "anti-everything"...The 88 saw service on all fronts in which the Germans fought during WWII. The Puma is, arguably, one of the best-looking armoured cars of WWII. A variant of the Sdkfz 234 it boasted a fully enclosed turret with a 5cm gun and thicker armour than other variants. Despite this additional armour the Puma was still capable of speeds greater than 50 miles per hour (that's 85km) and saw use as a scout vehicle from 1943 onwards on both Eastern and Western fronts, as even the thickened armour didn't offer much in the way of protection.The fully enclosed turret of the Puma variant had a KwK 30 50mm gun.

The Sturmgescha¼tz (StuG) III was a well-armed and armoured vehicle based on the tried and tested Pz.Kpfw III chassis. Manned by the artillery originally, as it was considered a mobile howitzer, it went through many variants during WWII, and indeed was one of the few German AFVs to serve throughout the war on all fronts.The StuG III had good frontal armour, its low profile making it ideal for performing ambushes, presenting a poor target for return fire. It is armed with an efficient and powerful 75mm gun and carries an MG42 for close defence.The StuGs were welcomed by their infantry comrades, supporting their attacks with HE shells or knocking out enemy tanks to the extent that by the end of hostilities, they had amassed more kills than any other German vehicle.This highly detailed plastic kit can be built as either the StuG III Ausf G assault gun or as the 10.5cm Sturmhaubitze infantry support gun.

The Humber Armoured Car was one such vehicle used for this role, more than able to hold its own against other light vehicles and infantry. From the parched deserts of Africa to the streets and fields of Europe, the Humber Armoured Car spearheaded the Allied advance.Replacing the aging Humber Light Reconnaissance Car, the newly designed Humber Armoured Car quickly became a mainstay of the Commonwealth forces, particularly in the North Africa desert war. The Commandos established an extraordinary reputation for dash and bravery in World War II. Formed in 1940 by order of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill with the express goal of taking the fight back to the apparently unstoppable German armed forces that had thrown the British Expeditionary Force out of France with such apparent ease. An all-volunteer force, they recruited from all parts of the armed services. Indeed there were Army commandos, Naval commandos and the Inter-Allied Commando regiment which included nationalities such as the Belgians, Polish, Dutch and others.Commandos fought in campaigns in Europe, Burma, Africa and earned battle honours for many famous actions including arguably the greatest raid of all - St Nazaire.Commandos were fielded in many different ways - from units of less than a full section up to full assault divisions depending on the task at hand. The new plastic kit for the British and Canadians is fantastically detailed and allows for myriad customization options. Our customer service boffins worked out that there are a possible 396 variations that can be made BEFORE the consideration of optional heads and additional accessories such as maps, waving arms and binoculars.The new kit is packed with optional extras, with head options for steel helmets, assault helmets and Tam o'shanter caps (for Scottish or Canadian troops), as well as weapons including: Lee Enfield No 4 rifle, Bren light machine gun, Sten sub-machine gun, 2-inch light mortar, PIAT anti-tank projector, Webley service revolver and Mills Bombs, additional accessories and command options.A British infantry squad was referred to as a section. It normally consisted of ten men and was divided into a separate rifle group and Bren group. Each section was led by a corporal armed with a rifle or pistol and included a lance corporal who was in charge of the Bren group. All the section members apart from the corporal carried ammunition for the Bren - 700 rounds in 25 magazines in all. In addition, all men carried grenades. As the war progressed, additional weaponry was acquired. The section leader and/or second in command would be issued with Thompson or Sten submachine guns (though these were sometimes quietly 'lost' to avoid making themselves obvious targets for snipers). Late in the war a second Bren was added to many Veteran sections, whether this was officially part of their issue or not.Canadian infantry sections were organised in the same way as their British counterparts. From 1943-45, due to the Canadian practice of employing MMGs and HMGs on Universal Carriers, spare Bren guns also became available to some infantry sections. All three Canadian infantry divisions were trained to conduct amphibious landing operations.
